The Digital Twin Across Scales: From Material to Factory

The term "Digital Twin" has entered the common vocabulary of scientists and industry professionals, leading to the creation of standards that define its scope. However, depending on the application areas considered (production lines, manufacturing of metal or composite parts, healthcare, etc.) and the spatiotemporal scales involved, the concept of a Digital Twin can, in practice, encompass very different realities.

The objective of this conference is to present an up-to-date overview of digital twins in materials science and engineering, from already integrated tools that can be adopted by industrial users to tools currently under development. A number of current and future applications in the field of materials will be discussed, all requiring a multi-physics and multi-scale description of the problem to be modeled and digitized. In this context, the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods becomes particularly relevant, especially for processing large amounts of data.
